Sericulture was realized to require immediate and long-term needs for its
accelerated development and sustenance, primarily on the country’s
institutional capabilities on manpower infrastructure, facilities, and
financial requirements.
Sericulture industry became an indispensable component in the R, D
& E programs of DMMMSU.
Henceforth,
the Extension Division of SRDI is at the forefront of disseminating seri-technologies
in the Philippine countryside.
In doing so, it bears the brunt of negative perceptions on this new
technology manifested in the target clienteles’ propensity against
anything novel and indifference among certain quarters in the local and
national levels of governance.
The SRDI, however, is strongly committed to perform its function as
mandated.
The action plan of the Extension Division is anchored on efficiency
and effectiveness based on its meager budget.
At
present, the following are being done:
|
Silkworm
Hybrid Production and Distribution |
 |
 |
| Mulberry
Sapling Production and Distribution |
 |
|
Development
of Mulberry Sericulture Communities |
 |
 |
|
Canadian
International Development Assistance Project
|
 |
 |
Moreover, the SRDI is concerned with the development of sericulture
communities in the country through farmer cooperatives, establishment of
sericulture centers and pilot sites and medium-scale filature units to
showcase the viability of sericulture in different locations of the country.
Thus,
the Institute extends technical services to sericulture cooperatives,
development agents, farmers, and entrepreneurs on call or as the need arises
all over the country through consultations, training, and other support
services.
The
SRDI also offers the following degree programs in sericulture in
coordination with the Graduate College of DMMMSU:
a.
Ph.D. in Agricultural Science major in Sericulture - to be offered
b.
Master of Science in Sericulture
c.
Bachelor of Science in Agriculture major in Sericulture
Likewise,
it conducts non-degree programs for different types of clienteles.
